| Approve Termination of Contract with Early Career Academy, Inc. | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| On April 1, 2014, the Hillsborough County School Board approved a five-year contract with Early Career Academy, Inc. The contract commenced on July 1, 2014, and was for a five-year term expiring on June 30, 2019.
Early Career Academy was scheduled to open in the 2014/2015 school year. On July 29, 2014, the chairman of the board for Early Career Academy requested to defer the opening of the school until August 2015 due to facility preparations. The request was approved. Over the past 12 months, the school has worked towards startup. On August 3, 2015, ITT Educational Services notified the school district that they could not serve as the educational management organization for Early Career Academy. Additionally, the facility that ITT Technical Institute was to lease to Early Career Academy would not be available (Attachment I). On August 24, 2015, the school district received a letter notifying us that on August 21, 2015, by quorum, the Early Career Academy Board of Directors unanimously voted to terminate the charter school contract with Hillsborough County Public Schools (Attachment II). All funds received by the Early Career Academy Board for operations of the school have been returned to the district. The total amount of FEFP funds dispersed was $57,100.32. |
