Recognition of the 2015 District High School Poetry Jam Winners (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The poetry jam is a districtwide poetry writing and performing program for students in grades 9 through 12.  The first District High School Poetry Jam Competition was held in April 2005 at Hillsborough High School with students from 12 high schools participating.  Participation has increased since its inception with students from 19 high schools competing this year.

In coordination with the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the 11th Annual District High School Poetry Jam took place on January 27, 2016, at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library.  At each participating high school, a local poet worked with the media specialist to host a poetry workshop and Poetry Jam Competition where students performed their own work.  The 2015 District High School Poetry Jam winners are:

  • 1st Place:  Tyrique Cooper, Spoto High School
  • 2nd Place:  Marlo Marbra, Chamberlain High School
  • 3rd Place:  Ashton Tejeda, Steinbrenner High School
