The additional computer storage capacity is needed to support applications that utilize the IBM XIV storage system. The district computer storage requirements have increased primarily from the growth of information and the need for timely recovery in the event of a system failure.  The additional capacity will benefit the teacher and principal dashboards, Student Information System, Lawson payroll and financial systems, district reporting, and data protection.

Acquiring computer equipment directly from IBM is in accordance with Florida Department of Education Purchasing Rule 6A-1.012(14). Information Technology, as defined in Section 282.0041(15), F.S., is exempt from the competitive solicitation process and acquisitions may be made by direct negotiation and contract with a vendor or supplier, as best fits the needs of the school district as determined by the district school board.  The attached quote represents approximately 83 percent off the state contract price, saving the district approximately $1,116,326.00.
