EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Initiative:  The Department of Adult Education is committed to providing educational services throughout the community allowing its participants the opportunities to obtain a high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) diploma, learn the English language, and earn United States citizenship.

Goals:  To collaboratively educate the community through partnerships allowing participants the ability to break those barriers to gainful employment while providing the direction for career pathways.

Targeted Population:  Individuals throughout Hillsborough County wishing to earn a high school credential, acquire the ability to speak English, and those wishing to earn United States citizenship.

Timeline:  Hillsborough County Adult Education has been providing services since the 1930’s.

Professional/Staff Development:  All teachers and staff are provided professional development opportunities throughout the school year.

Transferability:  The subject area content and curriculum standards are provided by the Florida Department of Education’s Department of Career, Technical, and Adult Education.

Involvement:  The Department of Adult Education currently operates in 8 adult and community schools and 54 additional “sub-sites” throughout the community.  Partnering agencies include multiple government agencies, corporations, and faith-based organizations.
