Approve Adolescent and School Health Districtwide Study
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As a follow-up to the workshop held Thursday, May 3, 2016, the School Board requested that the Superintendent of Schools begin a districtwide study on the below listed areas:

  • Youth risk behaviors
  • School health policies related to tobacco use; prevention and nutrition
  • Sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
  • Unhealthy dietary behaviors
  • Inadequate physical activity
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Promote a culture of safety, which is free from harassment, bullying, and aggression • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety including students, employees, visitors, facilities, transportation, and health
