SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve all Title II, Part A Project and Funds: Teacher and Principal Training and Recruitment Fund Based on Final Approval from the State for the 2017/2018 School Year (Educational Leadership and Professional Development Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Title II, Part A entitlement grant will provide funds for the purpose of recruiting and training staff in the following areas: Activities and strategies that support the recruitment of highly qualified teachers Teacher training in such areas as instructional strategies, classroom management, and equity Utilizing salary differentials to recruit and retain highly qualified teachers in high poverty schools Core content training for teachers and administrators Leadership and school improvement strategies Assessment and evaluation strategies for analysis of student data Strategies to eliminate the achievement gap
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce • Develop, recognize, and reward employees • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
If approved, grant funds will be available in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget Title II in the anticipated amount of $6,307,000.  For tracking purposes, the projects specific to this agenda item are 3337, 3338, and 3389.
EVALUATION
By September 30, 2018, a comprehensive evaluation of the 2017/2018 Title II, Part A Project will be completed. The information will be used to prioritize and direct Title II dollars toward programs and trainings that are closing the achievement gap and improving teacher performance.
