Approve the Recommendation Regarding the Purchase of QUICKREADS, Levels A-D, from Pearson, Inc. (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Research shows that post-high school life demands reading of increasingly complex text. To prepare our students to meet this demand, they need to become highly automatic, or fluent, with reading that involves critical concepts and vocabulary. Based on Dr. Elfrieda H. Hiebert's research, this classroom-validated program systematically increases students' automaticity with high-leverage words and at the same time develops their knowledge base with informational text. Through a unique combination of text and consistent instructional routine, QUICKREADS results in improved reading proficiency for students at all ability levels.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $65,000 will be available in the Comprehensive Reading Plan (CRP) budget. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 4525. As of Thursday, July 14, 2016, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this item equaled $215,000. 
EVALUATION
Students' gains will be monitored through the use of a variety of progress monitoring tools, including curriculum-based measures as well as formal and informal assessments. This data will be reviewed and analyzed quarterly by school-based personnel and district staff.
