Approve Agreement with Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for the 2017/2018 School Resource Deputy Program (Business Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The School Board annually approves an agreement with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for the placement of School Resource Deputies in our secondary schools.  The agreement is administered by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for the 2017/2018 fiscal year, July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018.  The participating law enforcement agencies in the School Resource Officer Program pay 50 percent of the program cost.

The signed agreement was received in the Business Office the week of July 17, 2017, therefore, the request is retroactive to July 1, 2017.  The Chairman of the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners requires that The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida be the first signature on the agreement.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The expenditure amount of $3,983,580 covers 46 School Resource Deputies and six supervisors for the middle and high schools.  The school district covers 50 percent of the program cost. 

The expense amount, which covers the high school and middle school resource deputies, is $3,201,730; and $594,612 from the 2013 United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant; and $187,238 from the 2014 COPS grant.  Revenue dollars will be available in the Safe Schools Categorical within the Florida Education Finance Program allocation.
