Recognition of the 2019 "Excellence in Education" Winners and Finalists (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Every year, the Hillsborough Education Foundation, in partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools, presents the Excellence in Education Awards. This premiere event celebrates educators and school personnel who consistently bring forth their best efforts and utilize their talents to ensure the students they serve receive the best education possible.

This prestigious evening hosts 1,800 attendees representing nearly 300 schools in the Hillsborough County Public School district.  At the ceremony, nearly 700 nominees, 13 finalists, and ultimately 3 winners are honored in 3 categories:

Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year – Sandra Misciasci
Instructional Support Employee of the Year – Barbara Maxwell
Teacher of the Year – Dakeyan C. Graham

The finalists were:

Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year – Amalia Santiago, Unique Vernon, and Tamon Williams
Instructional Support Employee of the Year – Jordan Harris, Aymee Mejias, and Le’Jean Miller
Teacher of the Year – Nicole Bates, Jake Van Hise, Anne Smith, and Scott Hottenstein
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration

This event is funded through sponsorships developed by the Hillsborough Education Foundation.
EVALUATION
The district worked with the Hillsborough Education Foundation to develop goals and timelines to ensure the success of the program.
