Adoption of Proclamation - El Día de los Niños, Celebrating Young Americans Day, April 30, 2019 (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
El Día de los Niños is an enhancement of Children’s Day that emerged in 1925 as a national celebration in Mexico following the World Conference for the well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland.  This initiative recognizes children as treasured members of society, and brings awareness to the value of loving, accepting, and appreciating their individual cultures, races, and ethnicities.

El Día de los Niños is currently a nationally recognized effort that emphasizes the importance of increasing literacy for all children from all backgrounds.  While April 30th is the official day of recognition, we acknowledge that if we are to truly prepare students for life we must subscribe to a daily commitment of connecting children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures.
