SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Purchase of Adopted Materials, Florida Journeys, from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) for Elementary Reading for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 School Years (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In 2014, the School Board approved the five-year adoption of HMH Florida Journeys for elementary reading.  On February 13, 2019, the state revised the adoption schedule, extending this adoption for two additional years.  The revised adoption schedule created two gap years in funding for elementary reading for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 school years.

The printed materials previously purchased with the original adoption are in good condition and will be used for instruction during the gap years.  The digital access previously purchased expired June 30, 2019.  The proposed purchase will extend the digital access for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 school years.  Extending the digital component of Florida Journeys will provide continued access to the online intervention tool kit and multi-sensory content.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $268,814 will be available in the Instructional Materials Categorical budget. Each school year will cost $134,407. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 4509.
EVALUATION
The Office of Strategy Management conducted a survey last school year to evaluate the district’s utilization of Florida Journeys digital access tool. Survey results indicate the frequency of usage and which online components teachers use the most. A team of staff members from Procurement and the Office of Teaching and Learning analyzed the data and recommended this cost-effective proposal based on predicted need. Training to assist teachers with navigating and implementing this online tool will be made available per the recommendation of the evaluation.  Evaluation continued on attachment.
