SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Renewal Implementation Agreement with the Center for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The renewal agreement has been developed for the 2019/2020 school year to continue the program operation, which has expanded since 2004 to include 98 school sites (elementary, middle, and high schools).  AVID impacts as many as 11,000 students annually through the AVID elective class in the secondary level, and through grade-level integration of AVID strategies at the elementary level.  With its focus on leadership, systems, instruction, and culture, the AVID program is designed to prepare students for postsecondary success and provide teachers with resources and professional development.  This agreement outlines member roles, materials, trainings, and fees associated with the AVID Center.  A list of participating schools and a summary of the program is attached.

Funds in the Amount of $586,512 will be available from the following: 420 Federal, Project 3659 - Title 1: $114,099 101 District, Project 3552 - Florida Department of Education: $27,091 101 District, Project 5378 - EXCELerator: $445,322
EVALUATION
Data provided by the AVID Center reflects the following for the 2018 Hillsborough County Public Schools seniors: 80 percent applied to a 4-year college or university; 62 percent were accepted into a 4-year college or university; 43 percent plan on attending a 2-year college or technical school; 100 percent graduated from high school; 96 percent completed 4-year college requirements; 79 percent took 1 or more Advanced Placement classes, and had an average grade-point average of 3.7.  Of those seniors, 81 percent had been in AVID for 3 or more years, 54 percent took both the SAT and ACT, 40 percent are first generation college-bound students, and 17 percent are English Language Learners.
