Approve the Naming and Dedication of the Gymnasium at Durant High School (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Durant High School alumni, faculty, staff, and community members have requested that the gymnasium at Durant High School be named the Pam Bowden Gymnasium. The Pam Bowden Gymnasium will celebrate and honor Mrs. Bowden's thirty-four years of dedication to the students in Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Mrs. Bowden is a lifelong Plant City resident, she graduated from Plant City High School in 1979, graduated from University of South Florida in 1983, and began her employment with Hillsborough County Public Schools as a teacher at Burney-Simmons Elementary School in August 1985.  She taught at Pinecrest Elementary and Turkey Creek Middle School before transitioning to the School Community Specialist. In August 1997, she was appointed assistant principal for student affairs at Turkey Creek Middle School.  Mrs. Bowden was appointed as assistant principal of student affairs at Durant High School in August 1999 and remained in that position until March 2000 when she was appointed assistant principal for curriculum.  Mrs. Bowden was appointed principal of Durant High School on July 28, 2004, and is currently the longest serving secondary principal in Hillsborough County Public Schools. Mrs. Bowden influenced and enriched the lives of many students and families in the Durant community throughout her educational career.  Pam is admired and respected for her caring and tough love attitude, her encouragement and high expectations, and genuine interest in achievements and accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.  Mrs. Bowden is completely dedicated to church, family, community and her profession.    It would be an honor to the alumni, faculty, staff, and community to have the approval for the naming and dedication of the Pam Bowden Gymnasium at Durant High School.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Durant High School Alumni Association plans to purchase the plaque for the gymnasium naming in honor of Mrs. Bowden.  There is no financial impact to the district for the naming and dedication of the gymnasium.
