Operations Training Institute (Operations Department)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Operations team has partnered with Morrison & Associates, Inc. to develop a rigorous curriculum that prepares our staff for management positions or positions with increased responsibility. Through the Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) process, current managers were able to provide feedback around which skills are needed for leadership positions. The Operations Training Institute (OTI) will offer core courses designed to introduce skills and increase leadership knowledge to our Operations staff—thereby improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability of the Operations Division within Hillsborough County Public Schools. The Maintenance Department will be serving as OTI’s pilot group.

The six courses: Budget Management, Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Effective Communication, Project Management, and Team Building will ensure current and aspiring leaders in the Maintenance Department (and later, all departments across the Operations Division) will have exposure to the tools necessary to lead their teams successfully.

Current supervisors and managers are automatically enrolled into the OTI. Aspiring leaders’ enrollment into the OTI is strictly voluntary and is open to anyone who is an employee within the HCPS Maintenance Department. Between now and July 1, 2019, we are recruiting participants through an online self-assessment tool. Course enrollment is set for early September and the six courses will transpire monthly beginning October 2019.

  • Core Course Enrollment is September 1-15, 2019 through an online portal
  • Six courses: Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, October 2019 through March 2020
  • Once enrolled, participants must complete all six courses to receive the OTI certification
  • The Self-Assessment Tool provides opportunities to guide growth
  • For current leaders, development of an Individualized Professional Development Plan upon course completion
