EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
According to the Center for Disease Control, dental caries (tooth decay) is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases, five times more common than asthma. Our community partners work together to offer dental education, screenings, referrals, fluoride and/or sealants to all second grade students attending a Title I elementary school. Third grade students can receive follow-up dental care. SCHC will be expanding services to include kindergarten, first, fourth, and fifth grade students in select pilot schools that currently are receiving their services. MHI schedules and teaches their dental lesson, "Tooth Town, Show Down," to all second grade students in Title I schools. The lesson promotes the prevention of tooth decay and the benefits of healthy nutrition. |
|
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
• Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)
There is no financial impact for these services provided to our students.
EVALUATION | |
Monthly and annual reports will be submitted to the DOH-Hillsborough with information regarding dental screenings and follow-up. By providing dental services, barriers impacting student learning and time out of the classroom are reduced. Since the inception of this program in 2012, over 30,237 students have been served. In the 2018/2019 school year, 5,895 students were screened and 2,642 students received dental sealants.
