SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement for Technical Services #19139-ATS-IV with EdGems Math, LLC, for Math Curriculum Coaching at Sligh, Woodson K-8, Shields, Memorial, McLane, Jennings, Greco, and SSK8  (Leadership, Professional Development, and School Transformation)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
EdGems is the new adopted Middle School Math curriculum for Hillsborough County. The nine schools listed above are all part of the Achievement School Network. These schools, historically, are challenged with retaining highly effective teachers, therefore they tend to staff newer, inexperienced teachers. This contract will provide in depth training and support to the middle school teachers as they implement new curriculum.

Teachers will begin with a one day training; Using EdGems Math to Meet the Needs of All Students. In this session, teachers of middle school math students will learn strategies for meeting the needs of a variety of learners in the classroom using best practices with EdGems Math curriculum.

Midyear, teachers will come together to learn strategies for intervening with struggling students using EdGems Math curriculum.

Finally, teachers will also attend a one-day training; Interventions for Struggling Students.

Three times throughout the school year, each school will experience model lessons followed by observations with feedback. This training and coaching is a continuation of the training that will be provided to all teachers in the district. Giving the teachers more in depth training will help to support full implementation with fidelity at all of the school sites.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, collaboration and equity • Engage and communicate with families and stakeholders
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $62,500 will be available in the Title II budget. For tracking purposes, the project specific to this agenda item is 3785. As of July 30, 2019, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $62,500.
EVALUATION
One of the factors for successful implementation of new curriculum is an investment in professional development. When teachers are coached in the classroom following training there is a 95 percent chance they will consistently apply those practices on a daily basis. The area leadership team and Middle School Math department will assist in monitoring practices in the middle school classrooms to ensure successful implementation. Student achievement results will also allow us to monitor implementation through interim data checks as well as end of the year exam outcomes.
