Adoption of Proclamation - National Energy Awareness Month, October 2019 (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Currently, energy costs are second only to personnel costs as the leading draw on K-12 school districts’ operating budgets, a cost totaling approximately $8 billion a year for school districts throughout the nation. By promoting energy awareness around positive behaviors and practices leading to energy efficiency, our school district, educators and students can work together in saving energy, cutting costs and contributing to a greener future. In 1991, George H.W. Bush officially established October as "National Energy Awareness Month", verifying our nation’s growth in understanding that energy inefficiency and waste is an issue with long-term global consequences. Since schools are a microcosm of society, we are a part of a rich setting to proactively address the issue of energy inefficiency and realize a more sustainable future.
