SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement for Technical Services #19196-ATS-IV with Teaching Strategies, Inc. D/B/A Safe and Civil Schools to Provide Foundations Training for Staff at Achievement Schools (Academic Support and Federal Programs)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Teaching Strategies, Inc., will provide Foundations Training for the following Achievement Schools: Bing, Broward, Bryan, Burney, Dover, Dunbar, Graham, James, Lockhart, McDonald, Robles, Sheehy Elementary Schools and Sligh Middle School.  Foundations is a comprehensive approach to behavior management that guides the entire school staff in designing a proactive and positive schoolwide discipline plan. Foundations helps educators and support staff expand skills in effective supervision, discipline, positive behavior support, and classroom management, thereby increasing student motivation, attendance, and academic engagement. Leadership teams from each participating school will learn: How to improve staff communication and coordination How to analyze the data staff collects How to expand staff skills in effective supervision and positive behavior support Efficient data-collecting methods How to build a uniform referral system How to implement and maintain the Foundations Improvement Cycle The training series intends to help schools enhance or create a positive behavior intervention system.  Foundations will benefit the schools in the following ways: Strengthen student connectedness and school pride Increase daily attendance average Improve school climate Improve academic engagement Enhance school safety Reduce unnecessary discipline referrals Expand staff skill in effective supervision and positive behavior support
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, collaboration and equity
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Funds in the amount of $39,900 will be available in the Title IV grant. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 3744.
EVALUATION
Surveys will be administered to teachers and students to determine program effectiveness and satisfaction.  Results will be shared with the Site and District Support Teams.
