SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Consulate General of Italy in Miami, Florida for Cooperative Programs that will Provide Students Bilingual and Bicultural Education (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen Italian language education and culture within the existing program and expand opportunities to designated elementary, middle, and high schools. This agreement will also increase the understanding of Italian language and culture through professional development, cultural experiences, and curricular resources. The Consulate of Italy will contribute at least $35,000 annually towards the salary of one resource teacher for the duration of the MOU. Upon approval, this MOU will be in effect for three years beginning November 20, 2019, through August 31, 2022.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds provided by the Consulate General of Italy will be available in project 4285, Teaching and Learning reimbursable expenses.  Funds for the residual salary and benefits are available in project 4606 within the Supplemental Academic Instruction budget.
EVALUATION
Classroom observations, assessment data, and stakeholder feedback will be used to monitor student academic progress and determine program success.
