Approve the Purchase of Committee for Children's Second Step Program for Middle School (Sole Source Provider) (Academic Support and Federal Programs) (Revision to Executive Summary) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The United States Department of Justice awarded Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) the Student, Teachers, and Officers Prevention School Violence Prevention and Mental Health Training Program Grant. In an effort to increase social emotional learning and further the grant initiatives, the Second Step Program for Middle School will address the need of more intensive intervention to prevent violence on and off school campuses. Students identified by the Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework, as requiring Tier 2 or Tier 3 level of behavior-related intervention, will receive this instruction in individual, small group or whole class sessions. Second Step trained school personnel will deliver the sessions. This purchase will provide school-based curriculum licenses for all HCPS middle schools. In accordance with the Florida Department of Education Purchasing Policy 6A-1.012(14), a district school board, when acquiring, whether by purchase, lease, lease with option to purchase, rental or otherwise, information technology, as defined in Section 282.004(11), F.S., may make any acquisition through the competitive solicitation process or by direct negotiation and contract with a vendor or supplier, as best fits the needs of the school district as determined by the district school board. |

Funds in the amount of $275,354.10 will be available in the mental health grant fund identified through project number 3703. | |
EVALUATION | |
The internal evaluator for the district will analyze collected data including training records of staff and students to determine the effectiveness of the program for middle school as well as assess the need for any changes in implementation. The Office of Strategy Management will assist in monitoring the rate of behavior incidents among the students receiving the curriculum. | |
