SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Naming and Dedication of the Gymnasium at Randall Middle School (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Randall Middle School alumni, faculty, staff and community members have requested that the gymnasium at Randall Middle School be named the Marcia Elliott Gymnasium.  The Marcia Elliott Gymnasium will celebrate and honor Mrs. Elliott's thirty-five years of dedication to the students in Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Mrs. Elliott earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at Belmont College in Tennessee and a Master of Arts Degree at the University of Tampa.  She began her employment with Hillsborough County Public Schools in August 1973 as a teacher at Plant City High School.  Mrs. Elliott taught at Marshall, Turkey Creek, and McLane Junior High Schools until July 1986 when she was appointed as the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs at Greco Junior High School.  She continued in that position until January 1996 when she was appointed Principal of Greco Middle School.  On February 7, 2000, Dr. Earl Lennard appointed Mrs. Elliott as the charter principal of James D. Randall, Jr. Middle School.  Mrs. Elliott retired in October 2008.  Mrs. Elliott influenced and enriched the lives of many students and families throughout her educational career.  Marcia is admired and respected for her stern but compassionate manner, her high expectations, and genuine interest in achievements in and out of the classroom.  Mrs. Elliott set high standards and expectations that continue today at Randall Middle School.  The Randall Hawks are always "Soaring to Superiority."  It would be an honor to the alumni, staff, and community to have the approval for the naming and dedication of the Marcia Elliott Gymnasium at Randall Middle School.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Randall Middle School's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and alumni plan to purchase the plaque for the gymnasium naming in honor of Mrs. Elliott.  There is no financial impact to the district for the dedication of the gymnasium.
