Public Hearing on the Adoption of a New Policy | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Following the Florida Legislature's enactment of Senate Bill 8A in 2017 (Medical Use of Marijuana), the Hillsborough County School Board revised district policy 5330, Use of Medications. In October 2019, the Florida Department of Education issued a memorandum to Superintendents requiring school districts to adopt a more specific medical marijuana policy. The attached proposed new policy - 5330.02, Medical Marijuana Low THC Cannabis Use to Qualified Students in Schools - complies with DOE's memorandum. Beginning November 15, 2019, the proposed policy was available for public review on the district website and the notice of rulemaking was listed in the Florida Sentinel Bulletin, La Gaceta and Tampa Bay Times. After completion of the advertisement period set forth in Florida Statute Chapter 120, the Superintendent recommends approval to adopt this policy. Following adoption, the policy will be submitted to DOE in compliance with the December 31, 2019 deadline. |
