SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary Adjustments for Barrington, Rodgers and Giunta Middle Schools (Operations Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Due to residential growth within south Hillsborough County, a redistricting is needed to relieve overcrowding at Barrington Middle School.  Staff prepared an original, aggressive proposal to help relieve and balance enrollments of the impacted schools, which included Barrington, Rodgers, Giunta, Mann, Mulrennan, and Randall Middle Schools.  Staff considered future developments in the areas, capacity, stay rate, enrollment, access, neighborhood continuity, while ensuring boundaries aligned with parcel data.

A second proposal recommended attendance boundary changes that would relieve overcrowding at Barrington Middle School by reassigning students to Rodgers Middle School.

Per School Board direction at the February 4, 2020, School Board meeting, staff developed three scenarios for consideration. This includes the original staff proposal (scenario A), scenario B which reassigns students in the Panther Trace community from Barrington to Rodgers, and a portion of the Rodgers boundary (north of the Alafia River) from Rodgers to Giunta. Lastly, scenario C is a hybrid of scenario A and B, which reassigns students from the west side of the Panther Trace community from Barrington to Rodgers and the original POD 1 from Barrington to Rodgers.

Communicating with key stakeholders is an important part of the school redistricting process. Parent/community input meetings were held on December 17, 2019, January 13, 2020, and February 12, 2020, and public comment sheets were collected, compiled, and reviewed by staff.

Attached is an explanation of the process, a summary of stakeholder outreach, enrollment projections for 2020/21, and maps depicting the proposed revised attendance boundaries of the three schools.   All public comments are available for School Board review.
