EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
For the fifth year in a row, FASA is partnering with the district to support the Hillsborough County Public Schools summer leadership institute. On June 4, 2020, 680 principals, assistant principals, and district staff will come together for the 2020 Leadership Institute for the purpose of deepening their understanding of trauma – informed teaching, learning and how to support students, adults and community through a leadership lens. The overarching objectives of the institute are to develop a common definition of trauma, create self-awareness for adults so they are better able to support those dealing with trauma, and provide relevant and meaningful guidelines and practices that allow leaders to create an environment in every school and district department where all students and adults feel supported every day. It is through this type of culture that we will produce the highest levels of performance. The district is developing the intended outcomes for the institute and crafting the logistics, and FASA is paying for the facility, food, keynote speakers, and accompanying resources. They will also provide opportunities for ongoing professional development for school and district leaders throughout the summer.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $57,800 will be available in the Title II Grant. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 3788. As of February 17, 2020, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $57,800.
EVALUATION
The surveys from the institute last summer showed that 96 percent of participants strongly agreed or stated that the event was beneficial in supporting their practice. As a result of the institute, every school walked away with high–leverage strategies for creating safe and collaborative workplaces to produce learning, innovation and growth for staff and students during the 2019/2020 school year.  The same will take place this school year.  Each school will plan for ways to incorporate practices that address trauma and will implement these plans during the 2020/2021 school year.  Area Superintendents will continue the learning during principal and assistant principal small group meetings and district level administration will continue the learning during district leader learning days.  We will track implementation and outcomes of implementation through climate surveys.  We will also track attendance and key learnings from the FASA summer conference and workshops.
