Recognition of Hillsborough County Public Schools as a NBPTS (National Board for Professional Teaching Standards) Accomplished District by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (Educational Leadership and Professional Development Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hillsborough County Public Schools has a long history of supporting National Board Certification for teachers. To create an environment supportive of teachers growing accomplished teaching practices and earning Board Certification, our District works directly with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and leverages multiple partnerships including the Center for Technology and Education, the Hillsborough NBCT (National Board Certified Teacher) Network, the Hillsborough Education Foundation, and the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association. It is through the contributions of each of these organizations and the solid commitment of our NBCTs that Board Certified Teachers are growing in strength and that Board Certification is seeing a resurgence in our District. The launch of ASPIRE! four years ago has led to revitalized recruitment of candidates, reestablished candidate support, and opened teacher-leadership opportunities for NBCTs. In each subsequent year we have added candidates, many of whom are teachers in our Achievement Schools, and increased the number of NBCTs participating as Professional Learning Facilitators. The professional learning opportunities afforded teachers are all targeted on refining and growing effective instructional practices and developing teacher-leadership skills. Hillsborough County Public Schools has received the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Accomplished District recognition to honor our District’s commitment to growing the number of Board Certified Teachers in Hillsborough; for encouraging Hillsborough Board Certified Teachers to grow accomplished teaching practices and support others in their certification journey; and for supporting our candidates who strive to accomplish certification through their learning, teaching, and reflecting.
