Approve the Naming of the Belmont Elementary School Mascot (Chief of Schools) (Revised Executive Summary)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Per School Board policy, school mascots must be approved by the School Board of Hillsborough County.  The Acting Chief of Schools respectfully requests Board approval for the naming of the mascot to be Belmont Elementary School Tigers.

The financial impact was included as a portion of the overall budget for the construction project approved by the School Board on September 10, 2019.
EVALUATION
Policy 2900 - Mascots

A. The Board shall, upon recommendation of the Superintendent, approve by vote any proposed new mascot for all elementary, middle and high schools and any proposed change to an existing mascot for any elementary, middle or high school. The Superintendent shall develop procedures for the selection or change of mascots to ensure equity, inclusion and transparency.

B. All new mascots, nicknames, and descriptors-including symbols, imagery, practices, banners, flags, pennants or similar identifiers-used by school's sports teams, extracurricular clubs, curricular clubs or organizations, shall respect cultural differences, and values.

C. This Policy shall be effective upon adoption and shall not be retroactive.
