<p>Approve the Purchase of Hearing Technology&nbsp;from Phonak, Inc. (Phonak) (Sole-Source Provider) (<em>Academic Support and Federal Programs</em>)</p>
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
<div>When a student&rsquo;s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) team determines that he/she requires amplification equipment, the district must provide that equipment per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Additionally, in order to meet a student&rsquo;s amplification needs, hearing technology equipment must be calibrated annually, maintained, and upgraded as needed.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">&nbsp;</div> <div>Hearing technology equipment is also mandated by the Board approved Special Policies and Procedures, which specify that the district must provide auditory amplification equipment for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) and who are in need of&nbsp;that equipment per the determination by the student&rsquo;s IEP Team.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">&nbsp;</div> <div>Phonak is designated as sole-source and&nbsp;is the manufacturer and only United States source for this&nbsp;amplification equipment. The purchase is, therefore, exempt from the requesting competitive solicitations by the Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 Purchasing Policies (11) (b).</div>
