SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
School Attendance Boundary Change Process (Operations Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Attendance boundary changes are required in order for the School District to manage growing enrollments, use underutilized schools space, and create new attendance boundaries for new school sites.  The Growth Management Department was assigned boundary changes around the time of the recession.  Prior to that time, the Administration Division processed all attendance boundary changes.

Since this time, Growth Management has developed informal procedures to conduct these often continuous attendance boundary changes.  Additionally, the team has added components to improve the process over the years such as a dedicated attendance boundary website, informational videos, and a dedicated boundary call line and email address.  However, the Department is always exploring new ways to improve this challenging process.

The goal of this workshop is to explain the current process, and to establish a way of work for future boundary changes.  Topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to, the public outreach process, timing of changes, scenario development, School Board Member involvement, District staff support, sibling preference, and student grandfathering.  The School Board’s input will assist staff in processing future attendance boundary changes.
