Approve the Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Tampa, Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance, Inc. d/b/a CareerSource of Tampa Bay for the Tampa Fire Rescue Partnership Academy, 2020/2021 <em><strong>(Workforce Connections)</strong></em> | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
We request approval of this Memorandum of Understanding, through Aparicio-Levy Technical College, for the Tampa Fire Rescue Partnership Academy. The purpose of this partnership is to provide an applicant pool of newly trained firefighters to the local workforce.<br /><br />The targeted student population for this special program is economically disadvantaged, minorities, and women. Through this partnership, the City of Tampa will provide the training facility, equipment, and site consumables. CareerSource of Tampa Bay will provide tuition, fees, textbooks, tools, uniforms, and supplies for the students, as well as assistance with child care and transportation. Aparicio-Levy Technical College will provide the instructors and coordination of the partnership.<br /><br />The City of Tampa requires the School Board's signature to acknowledge acceptance of this Memorandum prior to the City of Tampa's final signature. | |

Funds in the amount of approximately $23,300 per class will be generated into the divisional Workforce Education budget. | |
EVALUATION | |
The evaluation of the academy program is based on enrollment, completion, and placement of students from this program into the local workforce. During the 2018/2019 school year, 112 students enrolled and completed the program. During the 2019/2020 school year, 69 (a/o 01.30.20) students have been enrolled in the program. These 69 students, upon graduation, have the earning potential of approximately $3.2 million in the Tampa Bay Region based on the average wage reported by the United States Department of Labor. | |
