Our School Board remains committed to the teaching and learning of African American studies. This year, Board Member Tamara Shamburger introduced the First Black History Door Decorating Contest. Classroom teachers and instructional staff at all grade levels were eligible to participate. Teachers submitted pictures of their decorated classroom doors or bulletin boards. Teachers also submitted paragraphs with explanations of the decorations, lessons and student engagement. The doors were judged using the following criteria: K-12 age appropriate, Black History theme, completeness, creativity, neatness, originality and visual impact.
