<p>Application Approval for Riverview Academy High School and the Advantage Academy of Hillsborough Articulation Agreement (<em>Innovation</em>)</p> | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
<p>On February 3, 2020, the district received the application for Riverview Academy High School for a 2021/2022 school opening. The application is a high-performing replication of Bell Creek Academy High School. </p> <p>The applicant for Riverview Academy High School is Advantage Academy of Hillsborough, Inc. (AAH) and currently governs nine charter schools in Hillsborough County. AAH has selected Charter School Associates as the Education Service Provider for the proposed school. </p> <p>The mission of the proposed Riverview Academy High School is, “to provide students with a well-rounded college preparatory and career exploration high school education, through a challenging academic program supported by technology, on-site learning experiences via local businesses and the opportunity to tie classroom learning with the real world of work.” </p> <p>The proposed school will be located on the same campus as Riverview Academy of Math and Science at 9906 Symmes Road in Riverview and will be open to all eligible high school students in Hillsborough County. The first year the school will offer grades 9 and 10 with a projected enrollment of 350 students. The enrollment projections will grow to 900 students in grades 9-12 by year 5. With the approval of the attached Articulation Agreement, enrollment preference will be given to students attending Riverview Academy of Math and Science.</p> <p>The proposed school will replicate the high-performing educational design of Bell Creek Academy High School by offering traditional curriculum with a STEM education approach, and will provide opportunities to students with options for Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment and Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma.</p> <p>The Charter School Application Review Team, made up of staff from a variety of district departments and an external charter school operator, reviewed the application and provided feedback collectively. Feedback was compiled and used to interview the applicant for further understanding of the application. </p> <p>According to the requirements in F.S. 1002.33(6), charter applications shall: </p> <ol> <li>Demonstrate how the school will use the guiding principles and meet the statutorily defined purpose of a charter school.</li> <li>Provide a detailed curriculum plan that illustrates how students will be provided services to attain the Florida Standards.</li> <li>Contain goals and objectives for improving student learning and measuring that improvement.</li> <li>Describe the reading curriculum and differentiated strategies that will be used for students reading at grade level or higher and a separate curriculum and strategy for students who are reading below grade level.</li> <li>Contain an annual financial plan for each year requested by the charter for operation of the school for up to five years.</li> </ol> <p>The application meets all of the statutory requirements in F.S. 1002.33(6). The Florida Charter School Application Evaluation Instrument for Riverview Academy High School and the Advantage Academy of Hillsborough Articulation Agreement are attached.</p> | |
