Select School Board Member to Serve on Public School Siting Taskforce (Operations Division)
|
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY |

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2020, Superintendent, Addison Davis and General Manager of Growth Management, Amber Dickerson provided a presentation to the Hillsborough County of Board of County Commissioners outlining the District’s Tentative 5-Year Work Plan and the school siting challenges in South County.

The main issue is the lack of transportation infrastructure to support the development of new schools. The School District is legally prohibited from constructing non-contiguous transportation infrastructure improvements. However, no roadways in South County are non-substandard, and the County does not have funding to improve these roadways to support the siting requests. Per the Interlocal Agreement, the County must approve the location of new school sites. The County recently issue a finding of no consistency for the District’s Bishop Road school site. Therefore, the School District is unable to construct a new schools to provide relief for the overcrowded schools in the area.

Therefore, the District has requested to establish a Public School Siting Taskforce consisting of the decision makers and topic experts below to resolve this issue. We are requesting the School Board Members appoint a School Board Member to serve on this taskforce.
|
