SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Tampa Bay Art Therapy (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Upon approval, this Agreement for Technical Services will continue to enhance the provision of mental health services provided to students at participating Project Prevent schools (Folsom, Ippolito, Robles, and Sulphur Springs elementary schools; Adams, Greco, Madison, and Van Buren middle Schools; and Chamberlain and Hillsborough high schools).  As a result of this partnership traditional and digital art therapy curricula will be created by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. Lessons will be created for use by student services personnel and will incorporate the use of various art mediums as well as digital art therapy.  Training modules (pre- and posttests, training packets, and resources for facilitators) will also be created.  According to the American Art Therapy Association research supports the use of art therapy for the therapeutic benefits gained through artistic self-expression and reflection for individuals who experience trauma, illness, mental illness, or other developmental, educational, social or psychological impairment.  Art therapy helps people resolve conflicts, improve interpersonal skills, manage problematic behaviors, reduce negative stress, increase self-esteem, and achieve personal insight.

Alison Myers, owner of Tampa Bay Art Therapy, is a certified Art Therapist whose work and license is regulated by the American Art Therapy Association.
