Approve the Annual Agreements of Understanding with the Community Based Training (CBT) Sites for Students with Disabilities for 2017/2018 (Educational Access, Opportunity, and Alternatives)
We request approval for the Agreements of Understanding with the CBT sites, Accentia Health and Rehab Center of Tampa Bay and Palm Garden of Tampa, to provide valuable training experiences for qualifying students with disabilities. Upon receipt of training in entry-level positions at a variety of businesses in the community, participating students are better prepared to successfully enter the workforce. During the 2017/2018 school year, under this 1-year Agreement of Understanding, an estimated 24 students with disabilities will receive training opportunities.
• Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
The estimated cost for transporting students to and from the business sites is $22,000 and will be available in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 3331.
CBT Business Partnership Evaluations were completed by participating sites for 2016/2017. The participating businesses rated students on their performance based on the following criteria:

  • Students display appropriate behavior
  • Students display independence
  • Students follow company policies/rules
  • Students display appropriate dress/hygiene
  • Student perform assigned tasks
  • Overall program effectiveness

During the 2016/2017 school year, the ratings from the above criteria produced the following positive outcomes:

  • 100 percent of the students were rated above average in the six areas previously listed

Businesses involved will be given quarterly evaluations for completion, with the final evaluations to be concluded by June 30, 2018.
