Approve Reorganization and Redirection for the Communications Department
Hillsborough County Public Schools is committed to using communication and engagement strategies with educational stakeholders in order to enhance trust, foster meaningful interactions, and shape public perception. This reorganization will allow the district to modernize job descriptions and realign personnel in order to enhance the communication platforms available to internal and external stakeholders.

The reorganization of the District's Communications Division will provide for better alignment and use of staff. Additionally, the adjustments allow the division to function in a proactive manner to better serve all stakeholder. The effective date of this reorganization is March 12, 2017.

Based on Tucker Hall recommendations with a customer service and fiscal accountability focus, we present the following:

  • Retitled and re-grade Chief Community Relations Officer to Communications and Media Officer
  • Created new job codes and job descriptions to reflect the scope of work and responsibilities for each of the newly created positions.
    • Department Manager, Media Outreach (1)
    • Department Manager, Content Development (1)
    • Department Manager, Marketing (1)
    • Assistant Department Manager, Communications, Area Support (4)
    • Assistant Department Manager, Communications, District Support (1)
  • Eliminated Department Manager positions in Public Relations, Communications, Strategic Marketing and Choice Marketing.

The Office of Community Partnership and Philanthropy will be under the direction of the Division of Outreach and School Improvement. This realignment will provide greater focus for our most at-risk schools and will improve the oversight of programs and needs of the district.

The Central Printing Department will be under the direction of the Operations Division. This realignment will bring the majority of non-site based instructional support personnel under one leadership in an effort to support the District's vision.

• Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce • Develop, recognize, and reward employees • Continuously improve processes and systems • Establish a strong foundation of financial stewardship • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health • Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning
This reorganization will be cost neutral.
