Approve the Affiliation Agreement with University of North Florida (UNF) to Allow Students to Serve as Interns in the District (Educational Leadership and Professional Development)
Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) currently accepts student interns from 39 approved institutions throughout the country. Students typically participate in a 12-week internship program in their final semester prior to graduation. During internships, students are provided the opportunity to design standard-based lessons, deliver those lessons, create assessments and attend professional development trainings.  Students work under a cooperating teacher who is experienced and effective and trained in the state clinical educator program.
• Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce
Currently, HCPS hosts approximately 600 – 700 student interns per school year. According to teacher recruitment, approximately 90 percent of those interns are hired as instructional employees upon successful completion of their internship and receipt of bachelor’s degree.
