Recognition of the Lightning Foundation and the Community Hockey Department (Community Engagement & Philanthropy)
The Lightning Foundation and the Community Hockey Department have been an instrumental partner in developing unique opportunities for our students.
  • GUIDE the Thunder, mentorship program that takes place at Pierce and Webb Middle schools provides one-to-one mentors to the 34 participants, weekly ice hockey sessions, tutoring, transportation and meals. This commitment will extend for an additional four academic years and will impact a total of 100 students.
  • Build the Thunder, Lightning Made Clinics are street hockey clinics that promote the game of hockey. All participants receive a street hockey stick and ball to practice at home.
  • Hock3y by the Numb3rs, sponsored by the Stantec Company, is a math centered one hour presentation that brings math to life through hockey application. This program is directed by Rick Peckham, Tampa Bay Lightning's broadcaster.
  • Score with Reading: In partnership with myON Digital reader, kicked off January 23 in all first grade classrooms, encouraging students to read during a six-week period. The top five schools with the most average minutes read received a Thunderbug Reading (Pep) Rally. Winning teachers and media specialists received prizes as well.
  • Tampa Bay Lightning Spirit Night was hosted in the fall in which $2 from every ticket purchased was donated to the Supporting Student Success (S3) fund which provides basic needs to our students.
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration • Engage and communicate with families and stakeholders • Continuously improve processes and systems • Establish a strong foundation of financial stewardship • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
