Title

B6.19 - Approve the Recommended Titles as Adopted Instructional Materials for Elementary, Middle School, and High School Mathematics (Office of Teaching and Learning)

Description

A district Instructional Materials Selection Committee was formed in compliance with district instructional materials adoption procedures to review and recommend the materials for adoption.  A public review was advertised via the district's website from April 16, 2019, through May 6, 2019, and a public hearing was held at the School Board meeting on May 7, 2019.  Upon Board approval, a resident of Hillsborough County may file a petition within 30 days to contest the adoption.  A public hearing will be held on all petitions timely received.  The adoption process was conducted in accordance with Board Policy 2510 and administrative procedures that include the following requirements:

  • The selection committee is trained in the instructional materials evaluation process.  Both print and digital resources are sampled and reviewed during the evaluation process.
  • The selection committee evaluates submissions using criteria compatible with those established by the Florida Department of Education, including criteria aligned with the State Standards where appropriate.
  • For the adoption of a major tool of instruction, the selection committee recommends no more than two selections to be placed on a ballot for a districtwide, subject-area teacher vote.
  • For the adoption of supplemental instructional materials, the selection committee may make a final recommendation for adoption by the School Board.
