B6.23 - Approve Agreements for Educational Services with Building Trade Apprenticeship/Pre-Apprenticeship Committees, Erwin Technical College, 2019/2020 (Workforce Connections)

Description

We request approval of the Agreements for Educational Services to continue to provide training for 19 building trade apprenticeship committees and 3 pre-apprenticeship committees. For more than 27 years, the district has had active educational agreements with the building trades apprenticeship committees for adult job training programs.

The apprenticeship committees are compensated $0.95 per instructional hour for each registered apprentice. The contracted funds are used to cover instructor salaries/benefits; program promotion; instructional materials and supplies; equipment upgrade, replacement, and repair; and other supervisory and administrative costs to include, but not limited to, lease expenses for classroom facilities and equipment, travel, mileage, conferences, registrations, and professional meetings.

Review Comments

The quality of the programs are evaluated annually for compliance with the Florida Department of Education and the Federal Bureau of Apprenticeship Training. Student achievement is evaluated by the number of Occupational Completion Points (OCPs) earned. During the 2017/2018 school year, 1,704 apprentices attended classes; of those students in attendance, 745 OCPs were earned.

During the 2018/2019 school year, as of May 13, 2019, 1,860 apprentices attended classes; of those students, 361 OCPs have been earned.
