School Board Meeting
Title

B6.10 - Approve the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Hillsborough Community College (HCC) for Career Pathways Events (Workforce Connections)

Description

This MOA with HCC will allow the district to receive a maximum of $30,000 and not less than $15,000 of Carl D. Perkins funding, which is designated for programs that educate high school students, teachers, and counselors on the technical programs offered by HCC, such as Culinary Management, Engineering Technology and Nursing.  The funds will be used for instructor stipends, student/staff transportation, and supplies.

HCC requires the School Board's signature to acknowledge acceptance of this Memorandum prior to HCC's  final signature.

Gap Analysis

Leadership from the Workforce Division of both Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) and HCC identified a knowledge gap in students, educators and counselors in reference to the career pathways opportunities between HCPS and HCC. These events have been created to close this knowledge gap with enhanced communication for these three stakeholder groups.

Previous Outcomes

In June 2019, 28 counselors attended College and Career Connections and in January 2020, over 400 high school students attended the HCC Career Quest.

Expected Outcomes

In 2020/2021, the Career and Technical Education department plans to increase the number of counselors attending College and Career Connections by 10 percent, increase the number of high school students attending the HCC Career Quest to over 450 and create a new event to address the needs of non-traditional student populations in June 2021.

Strategic Plan Goal

* Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child

Recommendation

That the Board approve the MOA with HCC to fund Career Pathways Events.

Financial Impact
