C12.01 - Notification of the Procurement and Installation of Sunshades at 56 School Campuses (Operations Division)
A significant number of Elementary and K-8 schools in the District do not currently have shaded exterior play courts for the students to use for physical education (PE) and/or other outdoor activities. With the District having shade covers available “on-bid” and with that contractor offering an additional discount to provide shades at these 56 schools, Operations is moving forward with the shade installation so that every school will now have a shaded play court.
It is anticipated that, weather permitting, shades will be installed one per week beginning in June 2020. Due to the magnitude of the scope of work, the full installation of all shades will take slightly more than one calendar year. Individual schools have selected the color of the shade structure and the shade fabric to be used at their respective school.
Additionally, 12 of the schools receiving these shades have elected to self-fund the cost to increase the size of their shade structure from a District-provided 80’ by 80’ to the increased size of 80’ by 100’.
