Title

B6.31 - Approve the Renewal of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Center College Readiness System Support Agreement for the 2020/2021 School Year (Academic Services)

Description

Through Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) long-standing partnership with the AVID Center and HCPS high number of AVID sites, the AVID Center will continue to support the implementation of the AVID system by funding one, full-time staff member.

Gap Analysis

AVID impacts over 12,000 students at 96 school sites through the AVID elective class at the elementary and secondary level.  With focus on leadership, systems, instruction, and culture, the AVID program is designed to prepare students for postsecondary success.  This full-time staff member would continue to impact the expansion of AVID through the support of leadership, direction, training, counseling, and professional development for faculty and administration at each of the AVID sites.

Previous Outcomes

In addition to the ongoing support of our AVID schools, over 800 teachers and administrators are trained annually.  During the 2019/2020 school year, over 500 elementary teachers and administrators were trained in AVID Elementary Foundations.  In November of 2019, Rampello K-8 Downtown Partnership School earned the distinction of AVID National Demonstration School.

Expected Outcomes

Continued support for all AVID sites with an increase in professional development and coaching through the lens of AVID's College and Career Framework, Certification Coaching Instrument (CCI), and site-developed goals.  This will increase instructional use of AVID strategies into day-to-day curriculum and increase awareness of college and career options.

Strategic Plan Goal

* Improve the high school graduation rate

* Improve Student Achievement

* Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child

* Develop a culture of respect, trust, collaboration and equity

Recommendation

That the Hillsborough County School Board approve the renewal of the AVID Center College Readiness System Support Agreement for the 2020/2021 school year.
