B6.09 - Approve the Contract Between AMIkids - YES and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida (Climate and Culture)

Description

AMIkids - YES provides a 240-day residential dropout prevention program for 30 boys who are adjudicated delinquent by the courts and under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). AMIkids - YES provides the facility and the personnel for the educational program, with support and oversight by Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Youth Services Program.  

Gap Analysis

Male youth, who have committed a variety of non-violent offenses and are involved with the Florida DJJ, will be provided specific behavioral programming as well as case management and prevention services to meet the conditions ordered by the judge and provide positive outcomes that will lead toward program completion.

Previous Outcomes

As part of the juvenile justice system, students reside in the facility as ordered by a judge to stay in the care of DJJ for an extended time whereby services and support will be provided by the AMIkids - YES based on the parameters of the agreement.

Expected Outcomes

AMIkids - YES will serve and prepare students to lead responsible and fulfilling lives through mentoring, education, and support while residing in their facility in order to successfully transition to have a clear plan for school or work.

Financial Impact

HCPS is required to pay private providers like the AMIkids - YES 90 percent of all full-time-equivalent revenue earned and provide access to all applicable categorical funds.  Additional funds have been provided through Specific Appropriation 86 with a supplemental allocation for juvenile Justice Education Programs. 

Review Comments

This program is evaluated annually by the Youth Services Department staff based on a model developed by the Juvenile Justice Educational Enhancement Program.  This review will be completed by June 30, 2020.
