C6.22 - Approve the Purchase of iReady Reading Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) Student Instruction Books and to Purchase iReady Reading and Mathematics Instruction, Diagnostic, and Teacher Toolbox (Academic Services)

Description

iReady is a comprehensive assessment and instruction program that provides teachers with the resources they need to help all students succeed. Teachers and staff will be able to triangulate diagnostic, instruction, and usage data to make informed classroom decisions.

The platform provides teachers and staff with user-friendly dashboards and clear reports with actionable data that provides an understanding of students’ strengths and areas of need to determine each student’s on-grade level proficiency based on state and national standards.

The online diagnostic, instruction, and Teacher Toolbox will be provided to all traditional elementary schools to provide a K-5 common measure to monitor student progress over time. All materials in the online and blended models are aligned to the elementary language arts and mathematics Florida Standards.

Gap Analysis

Hillsborough County Public Schools has the highest percentage of elementary schools in the Lowest 300 as defined by the Florida Department of Education. As this is an adaptive program, gaps in instruction are easily identified and students are provided guided instruction. This model supports academic growth at our most struggling schools. The complete iReady program and outcome data will not only provide meaningful data and support for struggling schools, but will also provide enrichment and resources for our high-achieving schools. This data includes on-grade level metrics as well as growth targets.

Previous Outcomes

Hillsborough County Public Schools has used iReady reading and mathematics diagnostics and instruction districtwide for three years. In prior years, instruction was not required, the full impact across all schools is not consistent. iReady data shows a flat usage and performance rate due to the inconsistency in implementation. When implemented correctly, the percentage of students who have shown academic growth in reading and math has steadily risen in the last three years. For the 2017/2018 through the 2019/2020 school years, there was an 8 percent increase in growth in reading and a 3 percent growth in mathematics.

Expected Outcomes

Teachers will have the ability to provide the appropriate level of reading and math instruction to students in grades K-5. With a consistent and monitored approach, there is an expectation that we will reduce the number of schools in the Lowest 300 and we will have an increase in reading and mathematics gains on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). With a continued and targeted approach, more students will also reach satisfactory performance on the FSA as well.

Strategic Plan Goal

* Improve the high school graduation rate
