B6.03 - Approve the Agreement for Technical Services #20113-ATS-IV with Franklin Covey Client Sales, Inc. (Franklin Covey)(Innovation)
The Leader in Me school improvement model is offered through Franklin Covey, uniting students, staff, and families around a common goal to prepare students with college, career, and life-readiness skills necessary to thrive in today's ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
Supporting All Learners and Uniting to Excel (SALUTE), a Department of Defense Education Activity grant, recognizes the adverse effects of military culture on military-dependent students’ social-emotional well being. Tinker K-8 has implemented Leader in Me to address the grant goal of improving social-emotional skills.
The contract covers Leadership in Me membership fees for 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and coaching fees for 2020-2021.
Data collected through a survey administered to Tinker K-8 faculty in 2016 identified student and family needs. This data demonstrates that there continue to be barriers related to social-emotional development that prevent students from performing their best at school. One-hundred percent of faculty respondents cited self-regulation as a barrier/obstacle for students. The other factors identified as significant barriers/obstacles included families moving because of the military (97.43 percent); students transitioned into Tinker K-8 mid-year (97.37 percent); anxiety, non-military/lifestyle-related (97.3 percent) and; anxiety, military lifestyle related (94.73 percent).
Through the efforts of Project SALUTE and implementing strategies including Leader in Me for teachers and students, the social-emotional skills of military-connected students continue to increase. In 2017 the baseline composite score was 3.81 to 4.24, a .5 standard deviation increase in the annual student survey results. The score in the spring of 2019 was 3.89, up from 3.71 in the spring of 2018.
We expect to meet Project SALUTE’s outcome target of the social-emotional skills of military-connected students with an increase from the baseline composite scores in 2020/2021.
