C11.01 - Approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) for Employee Giving Campaigns (Office of Innovation)
The purpose of this item is to approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to implement a scholarship fund based on the proceeds from the Hillsborough Schools Annual Employee Giving Campaign.
Through this partnership, Hillsborough Schools graduating seniors will have the opportunity to apply for designated merit based scholarships to attend a Hillsborough Technical College, a UNCF member institution, or any other Historically Black College or University ("HBCU"). UNCF requires the district to sign first.
Previous employee funding campaigns were provided to the organization without restriction to support the goals of the organizations. This MOU indicates all giving will be restricted to the 2020-2021 graduating senior scholarships for students from one of the 32 local public high schools and career centers.
Employee giving has declined over the past several years. Renewed interest will be generated as a result of direct giving to graduating seniors from the 32 local public high schools and career centers.
Based on employee giving, award merit-based scholarships to Hillsborough Schools graduating seniors to attend a Hillsborough Technical College, a UNCF member institution, or any other HBCU.
