B11.03 - Approve the Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) for Safe School Officers in Charter Schools (Office of Innovation)
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act (SB7026) requires each district school board and school district’s Superintendent to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to assign one or more Safe School Officers (SSO) at each school facility. The School Security Department trains and assigns School Security Officers to charter schools upon request.

During the 2019-2020 school year, 51 of 52 charter schools utilized SSOs assigned by the School Security Department. One charter school utilized the Guardian Program. All 52 charter schools were in compliance with SB7026 in 2019-2020.
School Security Officers will be assigned by the School Security Department to charter schools upon request. The SSOs assigned will meet all the requirements of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. Each charter school will pay for the salary and benefits of the SSO.

The Memoranda of Agreement will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure compliance with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
