B7.09 - Approve Acceptance of Project for Referendum (Year 1) Project at Woodbridge Elementary School (Operations Division)

Description

The District's referendum advertisement provided for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) and lift station replacements at Woodbridge Elementary School.  On February 5, 2019, District staff selected BAL Engineering, Inc. and Gilbane Building Company to provide design and construction management services, respectively, through a selection committee.  Award was made based upon the score granted by the selection committee.  Due to the magnitude of the scope of work, this project was divided into two phases.

The design professional has certified that the work is now fully complete in accordance with the plans and specifications and other contract documents and recommends Board Acceptance.

Gap Analysis

The major HVAC equipment (2 chillers) had exceeded their life expectancy, had become unreliable and caused discomfort in the learning environment.  Equipment was replaced to improve student comfort and the reliability of the schools HVAC system.

Previous Outcomes

Antiquated equipment generated an excessive amount of Maintenance Requests (MR's) which created unpleasant learning conditions.

Expected Outcomes

Completion of a major mechanical project resulting in energy-efficient HVAC systems and enhancing the student experience on campus to facilitate learning at Woodbridge Elementary School.

Strategic Plan Goal

* Establish a strong foundation of financial stewardship

* Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health

* Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning

Recommendation

Approve the Acceptance of the referendum project at Woodbridge Elementary School.
