Approve the Affiliation Agreement with New York University (NYU) to Allow Students to Serve as Interns in the District
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hillsborough County Public Schools currently accepts student interns from approximately 40 approved institutions throughout the country. Students typically participate in a 12-week internship program in their final semester prior to graduation. During internships, college of education students are provided the opportunity to design standard-based lessons, deliver instruction with the guidance and support of a collaborating teacher. The Human Resources division also provides support and professional development opportunities for both the interns and their assigned collaborating teacher. All collaborating educators meet both state and district level eligibility requirements.

EVALUATION
Currently Hillsborough County Public Schools hosts approximately 600-700 student interns per academic year. According to teacher recruitment, approximately 90 percent of interns placed in Hillsborough County Public Schools are hired as instructional employees upon successful completion of their internship and receipt of bachelor’s degree.
