SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Charter School Food Service Agreement Between Selected Charter School Sites and The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL (Academic Support and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Student Nutrition Services (SNS) has been asked to provide meal service to the following charter schools for the 2016/2017 school year under the district's sponsorship of the National School Lunch Program:

  • Florida Autism Center of Excellence Charter School (attachment 1)
  • New Springs Schools (attachment 2)

The agreement will be in effect from August 8, 2016, through May 29, 2017.  Under the agreement, SNS is responsible for approving free and reduced price meal applications, furnishing food and supplies for meal services, and providing technical assistance.  The charter schools are responsible for adhering to meal accountability procedures, serving correct menu items, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the service of food.

The meals served in charter schools will be included as part of the SNS monthly federal reimbursement claim.  The charter schools will be invoiced for student "full pay" meals, adult meals, emergency meals, any other meals that cannot be claimed as free or reduced price, and delivery charges if applicable.

The term of this contract is August 8, 2016, through May 29, 2017.  The signed contracts were received by SNS on July 28, 2016, which results in requesting Board approval after the fact.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Meals served to students approved for free or reduced price meals are claimed for reimbursement on the SNS monthly claim form submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The charter school is fiscally responsible for meals served to paid students, and for extra meals ordered and delivered, but not served. Revenue gained will cover expenses to result in a break-even status.
